Get to Know the Team

The communication platform team builds highly scalable, high-throughput solutions that power all communications sent from Grab to our users (including push notifications, Inbox messages, emails, SMS, Whatsapp and more) to millions of Grab users. We operate at the scale of Billions of messages each month. Our communication platform powers communications across all business verticals at Grab - including marketing and non-marketing messages. This team is also at the forefront of adopting AI innovations, mobile innovations and ways of working. We take pride in building distributed systems that have a real impact on the lives of millions of users in our endeavour to out-serve the underserved population.

Get to Know the Role

You will be responsible for building, growing, and leading a team of engineers focused on delivering high quality deliverables. You will have opportunities to develop backend and mobile components. Not only will you get to collaborate with the engineers, product, business, and program management teams to be on top of your deliverables, but you will also serve as a mentor to your teammates to help them grow. You will work onsite at CMC Creative Space, district 7, HCMC and report to the Manager, who is based in Singapore.

 

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • Lead a team of engineers across different tech stacks. You'll participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards.
  • Partner with cross functional leaders across product, design, analytics to build the product roadmap, set customer-focused metrics and experiment designs.
  • Lead the quarterly planning and build a smooth execution plan with the team for securing the delivery of product and engineering roadmap.
  • Set the engineering strategy and engineering key result targets for the team, consistently improve across testability, availability, security and code quality for your systems and modules.
  • Attract and retain senior engineering talent, actively mentor and develop engineering talent in the team and across Grab.
  • Keep your team staffing aligned with business needs and quickly pivot to changing needs.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

 

 

  • Experience: 8+ years of engineering experience on backend technologies and at least 2+ years as a successful software engineering manager
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Demonstrated experience attracting and retaining top talent with a proven track record of mentoring engineers to achieve their full potential
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, or similar platforms)
    • Experience with database architecture, including MySQL and PostgreSQL
    • Hands-on experience deploying code in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
  • Cultural Fit: A cultural role model with a strong sense of humility and empathy, ready to roll up your sleeves and work alongside your team to drive engineering excellence
