Junior Backend Developer (Wordpress / PHP)

Entry-level developer who supports the Middle Fullstack Developer on the production WordPress plugin that powers live Quality Realty tenants today. You implement small features, bug fixes, and tests in PHP and wp-admin JavaScript, and help integrate admin-side changes (including CCI-related UI hooks) under close review. This is a transition role: the long-term web stack is React/Next.js; you strengthen the legacy runway, not the final platform choice.

Current engineering phase
Revenue and operations depend on the WordPress plugin and REST API /wp-json/qr/v3. New Python/FastAPI services are added alongside using a strangler-fig approach. You work mainly in PHP/MySQL and admin UI; you do not own mobile (Flutter) or the future Next.js admin app.

About Quality Realty (QR)

Quality Realty is an early-stage AI-native SaaS startup building the future of real estate transactions in the Netherlands. We are developing Quality Realty Marketplace (QRM) — a voice-first, multilingual platform that connects realtors, clients, and service vendors (painters, movers, stagers, energy auditors, etc.) throughout the entire home buying, selling, and rental process.

At its core is the AI Native Marketplace Platform (ANMP) — a fully re-sellable, white-label, multi-tenant marketplace operating system. QR is the first vertical (Dutch real estate), designed from day one to power other local-service marketplaces worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Fix bugs from the backlog: reproduce issues, patch PHP/plugin code, verify on staging where available.
• Implement small, scoped features in the WordPress plugin (PHP) and wp-admin front-end (JavaScript/jQuery patterns used in the codebase) under Middle Fullstack review.
• Write and improve unit tests and simple integration checks for code you touch.
• Respect multi-tenant patterns (organization_id, roles/capabilities); never break cross-tenant isolation.
• Follow additive-only database and API changes unless explicitly approved; protect /wp-json/qr/v3 backward compatibility.
• Assist with CCI admin integration tasks (screens, hooks, REST wiring) as specified by the Tech Lead.
• Support retargeting, widget orders, AI Flow / prompt UI tasks when prioritized by BA and Tech Lead.
• Participate in code reviews, Git pull requests, and team standards; learn WordPress and plugin architecture from Middle and Tech Lead.
• Document what you change (short PR descriptions, handover notes) so future Next.js migration is easier.
• Do not own Python services, Flutter mobile, or greenfield architecture decisions

• 1–2 years professional or strong internship experience in PHP development (personal projects acceptable if quality is demonstrated).
• Basic WordPress familiarity: hooks, plugins, admin screens, or willingness to learn quickly on a large codebase.
• Basic JavaScript for admin UI adjustments.
• SQL basics (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE; simple joins).
• Git: branches, pull requests, readable commits.
• Good English for team chat, PR descriptions, and reading specs.
• Strong willingness to learn, accept feedback, and work in a small team.

Nice to have

• Exposure to REST APIs (consuming or extending).
• Basic Python (helps communication with Junior Backend track).
• Awareness of Sentry, logging, or debugging production issues.
• Interest in real estate or marketplace products.
• Prior WordPress plugin (not only theme) experience.
