Role summary

Mid-level engineer who owns the production WordPress plugin and new Python services during handover from the outgoing builder. You keep /wp-json/qr/v3 stable for live Dutch realtor tenants, deliver FastAPI work (CCI, integrations, gateway), and mentor junior developers. This is a transition role on our path to React/Next.js (web), Flutter (mobile only), and Python/FastAPI — not a greenfield Flutter rebuild and not “WordPress forever.”

Current engineering phase
Live revenue runs on the WordPress plugin and embeds qr-widget.js. We use a strangler-fig approach: no big-bang rewrite; APIs stay backward-compatible while we add Python services and, later, Next.js and Flutter mobile clients.

About Quality Realty (QR)

Quality Realty is an early-stage AI-native SaaS startup building the future of real estate transactions in the Netherlands. We are developing Quality Realty Marketplace (QRM). This voice-first, multilingual platform connects realtors, clients, and service vendors (painters, movers, stagers, energy auditors, etc.) throughout the entire home buying, selling, and rental process.

At its core is the AI Native Marketplace Platform (ANMP) — a fully resellable, white-label, multi-tenant marketplace operating system. QR is the first vertical (Dutch real estate), designed from day one to power other local-service marketplaces worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Own day-to-day engineering on the production WordPress plugin (PHP): bug fixes, security hardening, PII/tenant isolation, retargeting, widget orders, Stripe groundwork, and AI Flow/admin improvements — with additive-only schema and API changes so live tenants do not break.
• Maintain and extend the versioned REST API /wp-json/qr/v3; enforce semantic versioning and deprecation discipline for existing integrations.
• Build and maintain Python services with FastAPI (e.g. Contract Intelligence / CCI, API gateway routes, webhooks): clean models, auth, error handling, tests, and documentation under Tech Lead architecture.
• Integrate external services from both stacks where appropriate: Anthropic (Claude) for AI flows, Stripe Connect, Altum (valuations), calendar/email patterns, and preparation for Grok Voice Agent (WebSocket proxying and tool endpoints — primarily Python track; you support integration and WP-side tools).
• Implement and respect multi-tenant isolation on WordPress (organization_id, roles/capabilities) and on new Python/PostgreSQL work (tenant context, RLS on Cloud SQL where applicable).
• Contribute to database and migration work: MySQL (plugin) with safe migrations; PostgreSQL on Cloud SQL for new services (Alembic/migrations under review).
• Mentor junior developers (Junior WordPress/PHP and Junior Backend, part-time) via code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with the BA on specs/acceptance criteria and with the UX designer on admin and AI prompt screens (WordPress today; Next.js designs over time).
• Participate in testing, debugging, and production monitoring (Sentry, logs, plugin version rollbacks) to maintain reliability for paying tenants.
• Document handover, API contracts, and technical debt so Next.js and Flutter mobile teams can consume the same APIs later.

Required skills & experience

• 3–5 years of professional software development, with proven ability to own end-to-end features on a live product.
• Strong hands-on experience with PHP and WordPress plugin development (custom tables, hooks, REST API, Action Scheduler, wp-admin JS integration) — required.
• Solid experience building REST APIs in Python (FastAPI preferred; Flask/Django acceptable) and working with relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL).
• Comfortable reading and extending a large legacy codebase (~600+ PHP files) without unnecessary rewrites.
• Comfortable designing and consuming JSON APIs, implementing authentication (JWT/OAuth, API keys), handling async operations, and managing environment/configuration/secrets.
• Good understanding of cloud deployment concepts (containers, serverless, staging vs production, CI/CD basics); GCP exposure a plus.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows (pull requests, code reviews).
• Strong problem-solving and ability to work independently on complex tasks with light guidance from the Tech Lead.
• Good English communication (written and spoken) for documentation, team discussions, and collaboration with the CTO.

Nice to have

• Experience with strangler-fig or incremental migration from monolith to services.
• Experience integrating real-time features (WebSockets) or AI/LLM APIs (Anthropic, Grok, OpenAI).
• Familiarity with Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage) or similar.
• Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS (tenant isolation, configurable rules).
• CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Docker, monitoring (Sentry).
• Dutch real estate or proptech domain familiarity.
• Basic awareness of React/Next.js or Flutter (you do not own mobile/web UI in this role, but you build APIs those clients will use).

Reporting line

This role reports to the Tech Lead and works closely with the BA, Junior Developer (WordPress/PHP), Junior Backend Developer, UX Designer (part-time), and Data Scientist (part-time). Junior Flutter (mobile) is a separate hire on a later wave.
