Mô tả công việc

We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking AI-Integrated CAD Automation Engineer to serve as the critical link between our mechanical design environment and our emerging AI-driven design intelligence platform. In this role, you will apply deep expertise in Autodesk Inventor and Vault PDM to develop automated workflows that extract, structure, and publish design data for consumption by AI and machine learning systems. Working alongside an AI Engineer and a Data Pipeline Engineer, your contributions will directly reduce the engineering hours required to configure grinding machines and will enable intelligent part reuse and standardization across our machine platforms.

This is a pioneering role at the intersection of precision mechanical design and modern AI technology. Your work will help build one of the first AI-assisted mechanical design ecosystems in our industry, with high visibility and direct impact on how we design, configure, and deliver products to our customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  CAD Design & 3D Modeling

  • Create and maintain parametric 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and primary machine assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Develop and enforce CAD standards, naming conventions, and model structure guidelines that support downstream AI data processing.
  • Manage design data within Autodesk Vault PDM, ensuring structured metadata, revision control, and full component traceability.
  • Maintain a well-organized part library with clear relationships between components, sub-assemblies, and machine-level assemblies.

2.  iLogic Automation Development

  • Author and maintain iLogic rules and scripts within Autodesk Inventor to automate design workflows, parameter-driven modeling, and data extraction.
  • Develop automated export routines using iLogic that extract part geometry metadata, assembly structures, and BOM data in XML and Markdown formats.
  • Build configuration-driven design scripts that reduce manual effort when specifying or adapting machine layouts from existing component libraries.
  • Continuously improve and refactor iLogic scripts based on feedback from AI data pipeline validation results.

3.  Design Data Export & AI Integration

  • Design and implement structured export schemas capturing part metadata, assembly hierarchies, and full Bill of Materials (BOM) data in XML and Markdown formats.
  • Collaborate with the AI Engineer and Data Pipeline Engineer to define data formats compatible with vector database and graph database ingestion pipelines.
  • Map hierarchical relationships between individual parts, sub-assemblies, and primary machine assemblies to support construction of a CAD knowledge graph.
  • Validate exported data for completeness, consistency, and AI readiness — iterating on schemas based on pipeline and model feedback.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all export schemas, data dictionaries, and field definitions for use by the broader AI team.

4.  Design Intelligence & Part Reuse

  • Develop tools and structured processes within Inventor and Vault to identify and flag opportunities for part reuse and component standardization across machine platforms.
  • Support AI-driven analysis of the part library by ensuring exported data clearly communicates part function, geometry characteristics, and interchangeability attributes.
  • Contribute to configuration intelligence initiatives that reduce the engineering time required to specify, quote, and configure a grinding machine from existing assemblies.
  • Track and report on part reuse metrics, helping quantify the business value of the AI design automation program.

5.  Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with the AI Engineer and Data Pipeline Engineer in regular sprint cycles to refine data schemas, resolve pipeline issues, and incorporate AI feedback into design modeling practices.
  • Participate in design reviews and platform standardization initiatives, contributing the CAD and engineering perspective to AI-driven decisions.
  • Produce clear, maintainable documentation of all automation scripts, data export workflows, and schema designs to ensure long-term supportability and knowledge transfer.
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on Autodesk Inventor and Vault capabilities, advising the team on what is feasible for automation and data extraction.

Yêu cầu công việc

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor for parametric 3D solid modeling and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with Autodesk Vault PDM for design data management, revision control, and BOM structuring.
  • Experience developing iLogic rules or scripts (or equivalent Inventor API automation) for design workflow automation.
  • Strong working knowledge of XML data structures and the ability to design and validate custom XML schemas.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical assembly hierarchies, multi-level BOMs, and engineering change management processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a small, cross-disciplinary team alongside software and AI engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to document technical processes clearly for non-CAD audiences.

Preferred

  • Experience exporting structured design data from a CAD or PLM environment for consumption by software systems, databases, or analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with graph data concepts and an ability to think about parts and assemblies as nodes and relationships in a knowledge graph.
  • Exposure to AI or machine learning concepts — no programming expertise required, but curiosity and willingness to learn is essential.
  • Experience in the industrial machinery, precision machining, or grinding / finishing equipment industry.
  • Familiarity with Markdown as a documentation format.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault Developer SDK beyond standard iLogic rules.

HOW WE’LL MEASURE SUCCESS

In this role, success will be evaluated across several dimensions as the program matures:

  • Completeness and quality of CAD data exports consumed by the AI pipeline without manual correction.
  • Reduction in engineering hours required to configure a grinding machine from the existing component library.
  • Growth in the percentage of new machine designs that reuse existing parts rather than introducing new unique components.
  • Adoption and reliability of iLogic automation scripts across the design team.
  • Quality and coverage of schema documentation produced for the AI and data engineering teams.

WHY THIS ROLE

This position sits at the frontier of mechanical design and artificial intelligence — a rare opportunity for a design engineer who wants to do more than model parts. You will be a founding contributor to an AI-assisted design system, working within a focused team where your contributions shape the direction of the program. You will grow your skill set into data engineering, AI collaboration, and automation development while remaining grounded in the mechanical design discipline you already know. Your work will have a lasting impact on how our machines are designed, configured, and brought to market.
