Senior Software Engineer

Job description

You are the senior engineer who owns architecture, the agent harness, and the merge button for the whole platform. You will not hand-write every feature — you direct AI coding agents to build, then review for architectural soundness and own everything that reaches production. This is a high-leverage, high-ownership role: think “agent wrangler”, not “ticket cruncher”.

What you’ll do

• Own system architecture and high-judgment technical decisions across a Next.js + Firebase + OpenSearch stack.
• Build and harden the agent harness — the workflows, prompts/skills, guardrails, CI and safety rails that let AI agents ship code safely.
• Own the final code review and the merge button: humans own deployed code. Review for interfaces and architecture, not style.
• Own production reliability, security gates (customer PII, deposit/money flows), data migrations, and release approval.
• Set the verification bar together with the test engineers; enable shift-left testing so agents self-correct against tests before code reaches the pipeline.

Your skills and experience

Must-have (real production experience)

• 5+ years building AND operating production web systems that real users depend on — you have owned services in production, not just written code.
• Deep TypeScript and modern React / Next.js (App Router) experience.
• Strong backend: Node.js, serverless / cloud functions, a real production database (Firestore / NoSQL or SQL), and pragmatic API design.
• Cloud + DevOps: CI/CD, deployments, observability and incident response (we run Firebase App Hosting + Cloud Functions).
• You have made architecture decisions and lived with their consequences; you reason clearly about data models, security and scale.
• Hands-on, enthusiastic user of AI coding agents (Claude Code / Codex / Cursor-style) — you can direct, review and correct AI-generated code at a senior level.
• A security mindset appropriate for a system handling customer PII and deposits.

Nice-to-have

• Firebase / GCP and OpenSearch / Elasticsearch (search relevance) in production.
• AWS database experience (RDS / Aurora / DynamoDB) and other production data stores.
• LLM application engineering: RAG, evaluations, agent orchestration.
• Prior lead / staff role, or having solo-owned the technology of a real product.
