Job description

We're looking for a Backend Developer to help build and run the services that power Aviron's real-time multiplayer experiences. These are the systems that keep players' workout data synchronized and their races consistent while a lot is happening at once across many machines.

You'll take features from design through to production. You won't own the overall platform architecture, but you'll be expected to write reliable Go, reason carefully about concurrency, and take ownership of the code you ship.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain the Go services behind our real-time multiplayer features, keeping them reliable and low-latency—watching for memory and goroutine leaks, and recovering gracefully when connections drop.
• Design data models and queries that perform well under load.
• Work with the app and product teams to scope and deliver features.
• Investigate and resolve production issues as they arise.

Your skills and experience

What we're looking for

Must-have

• Bachelor‘s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related study, or equivalent experience.
• Have at least 2 years of experience in Backend development, including production Go.
• Strong Go fundamentals, including goroutines, channels, context, and common concurrency pitfalls like data races and goroutine leaks.
• Writes clean, idiomatic Go and backs important changes with tests.
• Experience building real-time or multiplayer systems where clients need timely, consistent updates, including keeping client state in sync and handling reconnection.
• Solid PostgreSQL skills: schema design, indexing, transactions, and efficient queries.
• Comfortable building REST APIs, gRPC is a plus.
• Comfortable debugging production services with logs and metrics.
• Effective and responsible use of AI coding tools—you use them to work efficiently, but you review their output and remain accountable for what ships.

Strong plus

• Deeper multiplayer experience: message ordering, advanced reconnection flows, or other latency-sensitive systems.
• Exposure to horizontally scaled real-time services, or stateful sessions running across multiple instances.
• Experience with tracing, load testing, Redis, Kafka, NATS, Kubernetes, or GCP.
• Analytical databases such as ClickHouse or BigQuery, and high-volume event pipelines (relevant to the workout and leaderboard data we process).
• Prior work on games, fitness tech, or other latency-sensitive products.
