Job description

Position Summary / Primary Purpose of the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Engineering Manager to lead a team of 15-20 developers, design, and develop seamless digital experiences for our retail platforms. The position will be responsible for creating customer-centric, scalable, and high-performance web and mobile applications that enhance the shopping journey.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Management:

  • Architectural Oversight & Validation: Review, critique, and validate end-to-end software architecture proposed by the team to ensure they align with long-term business goals, scalability, security, and high-availability standards.
  • Risk Mitigation & Code Quality: Conduct deep-dive technical reviews and architectural risk assessments, balancing cutting-edge technology adoption with operational stability.
  • Technical Governance: Define and enforce architectural patterns, coding standards, and best practices across engineering teams to ensure system reliability and maintainability.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of frontend, backend and mobile developers, fostering a high-performing, collaborative environment.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the team and across departments to align project goals and timelines.
  • Manage team workloads, assign tasks, and ensure balanced resource allocation for optimal productivity.
  • Promote a culture of learning by encouraging training, certifications, and skill development opportunities.

Project Management:

  • Plan, prioritize, and manage the team’s workload to ensure timely delivery of high-quality web and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including product managers and business leaders, to gather requirements and define project scope.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and implement solutions to mitigate issues and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure alignment with company objectives and contribute to the technology roadmap.

Innovation and Trends:

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in web and mobile development.
  • Encourage the team to adopt innovative tools and practices that enhance productivity and deliver value to the business.

Your skills and experience

Qualifications and Experience:

Qualifications/ Memberships:

  • 5+ years of web frontend and mobile application development experience, with at least 3 years as a Team Leader/Supervisor.

Experience:

Technical Skills:

  • Proven Architectural Expertise: Solid background as a Software Architect or Principal Engineer, with demonstrated experience designing and deploying high-performance, scalable distributed systems.
  • Extensive experience with C#, .NET.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like Git.
  • Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and automation tools like Jest, Cypress, or Detox.

Leadership and People Management Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team of developers, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Experience in recruitment, onboarding, and training of technical team members.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate the team to achieve high standards and deliver exceptional results.
  • Capacity to manage performance, provide constructive feedback, and create professional development plans.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Strategic thinker with problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
