Job description
We are looking for a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer to strengthen our platform engineering team. In this role you will design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure on Azure or GCP, drive CI/CD automation, and embed GitOps practices that let product teams ship with confidence. You will work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams — translating complex technical solutions into measurable business outcomes while raising the DevOps bar across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Cloud
- Design, develop, and manage cloud infrastructure using an IaC tool such as Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation.
- Administer and harden Linux servers for DevOps and application workloads, ensuring security and operational stability.
- Manage containerized workloads with Kubernetes and Docker, including cluster configuration, scaling, and lifecycle management.
CI/CD & Automation
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using one or more tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
- Implement GitOps workflows using a tool such as FluxCD with Helm charts to enable automated, declarative delivery.
- Develop automation scripts in Bash and/or Python to drive operational efficiency and environment management.
Observability & Reliability
- Operate and optimize a monitoring and observability stack — such as Grafana/Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, Dynatrace, or Datadog.
- Implement and support robust logging, alerting, and incident response strategies.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, security, and other internal teams to deliver reliable, scalable services.
- Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and customers, translating technical solutions into business value.
- Lead or contribute to technical decision-making, best practice definition, and DevOps knowledge sharing within the team.
What Seniority Means in This Role
We are not just looking for someone who can execute tasks — we expect a Senior DevOps Engineer to operate with a high degree of autonomy, ownership, and technical leadership. Here is what that looks like day-to-day:
Ownership & Autonomy
- You take end-to-end ownership of infrastructure domains — from design through delivery and ongoing operations — without needing close supervision.
- You proactively identify gaps in reliability, security, or scalability and drive improvements rather than waiting to be assigned work.
Technical Depth & Judgement
- You make sound architectural decisions independently, weighing trade-offs between tooling choices, cost, maintainability, and risk.
- You are the go-to person for complex infrastructure problems, debugging production incidents, and designing resilient systems.
- You stay current with the DevOps ecosystem and can evaluate new tools or practices critically before adopting them.
Influence & Mentorship
- You actively raise the team’s technical bar — through code reviews, pairing sessions, internal workshops, or written documentation.
- You mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing constructive feedback and helping them grow into independent contributors.
- You contribute to defining team standards, best practices, and DevOps culture within the engineering organization.
Stakeholder Communication
- You communicate infrastructure decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.
- You translate platform work into business value — uptime, velocity, cost savings — and advocate for platform investment when needed.
Your skills and experience
Must Have
Experience
- 5–7 years of professional experience in a DevOps or Infrastructure Engineering role.
- Professional-level hands-on experience with Azure or GCP (deep expertise in one is required).
Infrastructure as Code
- Proficiency in at least one IaC tool: Terraform (preferred), Bicep, or CloudFormation.
- Strong grasp of IaC best practices: state management, module design, drift detection, and GitOps workflows.
CI/CD & GitOps
- Hands-on experience with at least one CI/CD platform: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with GitOps tooling — FluxCD preferred — using Helm charts for declarative delivery.
- Familiarity with version control systems: Git or Azure DevOps Git.
Platform & Systems
- Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Skilled in scripting and automation using Bash and/or Python.
- Experience managing containerized workloads on Kubernetes and/or Docker.
Observability
- Solid knowledge of at least one monitoring/logging stack: Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, OpenSearch, Dynatrace, or Datadog.
- Strong understanding of DevOps best practices including security, reliability, and scalability.
Communication
- Excellent English communication skills — written and spoken — for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to document, present, and advocate technical decisions clearly.
Nice to Have
- French language proficiency (any level) — a valued plus for client-facing and multi-region team engagement.
- Relevant DevOps certifications: CKA, Terraform Associate, or Azure DevOps Expert.
- BSc / MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- Working experience at an IT services or managed services provider.
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud deployments.
- Awareness of security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or CIS Benchmarks — hands-on experience is a plus.
- Exposure to SRE practices and site reliability concepts.
