Job description
- Product Area Ownership: Own a significant product area or domain end-to-end. Partner with the Product Manager and stakeholders to translate product vision, strategy, and business objectives into a well-defined, prioritized roadmap and backlog that reflects customer needs and measurable business value.
- Strategic Contribution: Go beyond execution to shape strategy — bring data-driven proposals, identify new opportunities, define product outcomes and success metrics (OKRs/KPIs), and influence the direction of your area and adjacent products.
- Voice of the Customer: Develop deep, evidence-based understanding of customer needs, pain points, and opportunities through research, data analysis, and direct interaction. Champion the customer perspective and frame problems clearly for the team.
- Backlog Mastery: Own and actively manage a complex backlog — continuously refining user stories, defining clear acceptance criteria, and keeping the backlog transparent, prioritized, and ready for development. Set the quality bar for stories and discovery across the team.
- Delivery Leadership: Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews. Provide clear context and decisions to the development team so they understand the “why” behind each feature, and proactively unblock delivery.
- Stakeholder Management: Work across functions — engineering, design, commercial, operations, and brand stakeholders — to align on priorities, manage trade-offs and expectations, and make timely, well-reasoned decisions that keep delivery flowing.
- Value Maximization: Continuously evaluate the potential value of backlog items and prioritize ruthlessly to maximize delivery of impactful features that improve productivity, increase revenue, or reduce cost. Measure impact post-launch and iterate.
- Quality Advocacy: Participate in the testing process, review test plans and cases, and ensure delivered features meet acceptance criteria and quality standards.
- Design Partnership: Collaborate with designers to shape and refine wireframes and user flows that are intuitive and user-friendly, and communicate design intent clearly to the development team.
- Mentorship: Coach and guide junior Product Owners and Business Analysts — reviewing their backlogs and stories, sharing best practices, and helping raise the overall standard of product craft within the team.
- Documentation: Create and maintain clear, concise product documentation including user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
- Startup Agility: Embrace the flexibility of a growth-stage e-commerce environment, readily contributing to other business activities as needed to support our scaling efforts and disrupt the industry.
Your skills and experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: 5+ years of professional experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or in a closely related product role within a software development environment, including a proven track record of owning a product area and shipping impactful products.
- A strong product mindset with a genuine passion for understanding user needs and building valuable products.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements and user needs into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria — and to set that standard for others.
- Deep, practical command of agile development principles and practices (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences and align senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to frame problems, prioritize, and measure outcomes.
- Logical thinking and a structured, outcome-oriented approach to work.
- A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to operate autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience mentoring or guiding less-experienced Product Owners, Business Analysts, or team members.
- A genuine interest in the e-commerce industry.
- Bonus points: Familiarity with AI and its applications in e-commerce; hands-on experience with data analysis tools and with Jira/Confluence; exposure to digital marketing or a growth-oriented mindset; solid understanding of UX/UI principles and wireframing.
