Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and communicative Senior NestJS Developer to join our dedicated team in Vietnam. 

You will work closely with our existing Senior NestJS Developer and DevOps lead on the re-architecture and upgrade of a major client’s backend API. This role is highly impactful, focusing on migrating a legacy serverless backend to a modern, secure, and highly performant managed hosting architecture while delivering critical functional and compliance improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Code Quality: Maintain high code quality and architectural best practices (SOLID, DRY) utilizing advanced NestJS patterns, robust testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), and TDD.
• Data Layer Optimization: Maintain and extend complex database interactions using an ORM (TypeORM, Prisma, etc.) against relational databases (SQL Server/PostgreSQL).
• Identity & Security: Implement API integrations with OAuth2/OIDC identity providers, managing token validation, custom policies, and claims mapping.
• Data Privacy & Compliance: Implement data handling features (e.g., anonymization, telemetry suppression, PII management, and data residency controls) to meet rigorous client compliance standards.
• Observability & Telemetry: Build and maintain structured, privacy-safe logging and tracing systems to monitor errors, security events, and sensitive data access.
• Performance Engineering: Diagnose and resolve backend performance bottlenecks, ensuring efficient database queries, fast response times, and graceful scalability under peak load.
• API Documentation: Maintain comprehensive Swagger/OpenAPI documentation for all current and future endpoints.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the DevOps lead to adapt application code and configurations across environments, and provide accurate sizing estimates and updates during client meetings.

Your skills and experience

Required Skills and Experience

• Advanced Development: 5+ years of backend development with deep, provable expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and the NestJS ecosystem (including Interceptors, Guards, Pipes, and custom decorators).
• Fluent Communication: Exceptional English fluency (written and spoken) is strictly required for daily strategic interactions with the client and onshore teams.
• System Architecture: Proven track record with backend re-platforming, complex system design, or hosting migrations (e.g., moving from serverless to managed cloud hosting).
• Data Access Mastery: Extensive proficiency with ORMs and raw SQL optimization in relational databases.
• Identity Management: Hands-on experience integrating OAuth2/OIDC identity providers (e.g., Azure AD B2C, Auth0, Okta, Keycloak).
• Observability Tools: Strong experience with APM tooling and structured logging (e.g., Application Insights, Datadog, New Relic).
• Cloud Proficiency: Working exposure to deploying and managing applications on major cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
• Agile & Version Control: Expert command of Git workflows and Agile delivery methodologies.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Regulatory Compliance: Hands-on experience navigating highly regulated or data-sensitive environments, specifically concerning regional data residency and privacy legislation.
• Network Security: Working knowledge of private networking configurations, cloud edge security, and WAFs.
• Containerization: Proficiency with Docker and Docker Compose for streamlined local development and testing.
• CI/CD Pipelines: Experience collaborating with release and deployment tools (e.g., Octopus Deploy, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions).
• Azure DevOps: Familiarity with Azure DevOps as a project/work-tracking tool (Boards, work items, sprints)
