Applied AI / Machine Learning Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Applied AI / Machine Learning Engineer to help develop AI-driven applications supporting advanced manufacturing and industrial process improvement initiatives.
In this role, you will design and build machine learning models, AI-assisted applications, and analytical systems that leverage operational and manufacturing data to improve process understanding, optimization, and decision-making.
Working alongside software engineers and manufacturing specialists, you will help build practical AI systems with measurable operational impact in real-world industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain AI/ML applications supporting industrial and manufacturing process development
- Develop predictive models, analytical tools, and AI-assisted workflows using operational and manufacturing data
- Perform data analysis and feature engineering to support model development and optimization
- Fine-tune and deploy LLMs and AI-assisted systems for domain-specific industrial applications
- Develop and manage vector database and retrieval systems supporting RAG-based applications
- Collaborate with data systems engineers to define data structures, pipelines, and deployment requirements
- Validate and optimize AI model performance against real-world operational outcomes
- Create lightweight user-facing interfaces or APIs supporting AI-assisted workflows
- Document model architectures, training methods, testing results, and technical workflows
- Participate in experimentation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities
Your skills and experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in AI/ML engineering, software engineering, or data science
- Strong proficiency in Python programming
- Experience developing and deploying machine learning models in production or operational environments
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts, NLP, neural networks, and model evaluation techniques
- Experience working with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams
- Strong problem-solving capability and ability to work within partially defined technical problem spaces
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI orchestration or pipeline frameworks (Haystack AI, LangChain, or similar)
- Experience with vector databases (ChromaDB, Weaviate, Pinecone, Milvus, or FAISS)
- Experience fine-tuning and deploying open-source LLMs
- Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems
- Experience with model optimization for edge deployment
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux, and containerized environments
- Experience building user-facing AI-assisted applications or interfaces
- Experience applying AI/ML within manufacturing, industrial, or operational environments
- Experience working in international or cross-functional engineering teams
