The Purpose of Your Role

The Senior Backend developer works alongside front end developers, full stack developers, programmers or UX specialists to create comprehensive digital solutions for business needs. You’ll make sure the website is scalable and that it can still function when hit by large loads—be that traffic or demanding scripts. You are also tasked with maintaining and testing existing back end elements to ensure they’re as fast and efficient as possible. Data storage also comes under their remit, which requires them to have a good knowledge of data security and compliance.

You’re responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Your primary focus will be development of all server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the central database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the backend. You will also be responsible for integrating the backend elements built by your coworkers into the application.

Your Key Responsibilities

Design and Development/Strategy

• In this position, the Senior Backend Developer manages the day-to-day activities of the Junior Backend engineering teams as well as the management and execution of site/software development projects against delivery commitments and project plans.
• The Senior Backend Developer, leads the junior backend engineering team in the delivery of platform functionality through a mix of development software and helps the team in achieving and surpassing departmental goals. He/she provides technical guidance and direction, as well as hands-on resource and project management, for all backend related site/software development activities.
• Your responsibilities are not limited to:
  • Integration of user-facing elements developed by Backend developers
  • Build efficient, testable, and reusable PHP modules
  • Solve complex performance problems and architectural challenges
  • Use a combination of markup languages to write web pages.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing an array of Web-based products using PHP and JavaScript.
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.

Collaboration/Support

• The role of the Senior backend developer is also a highly collaborative one. The senior backend developer will work closely with senior engineering teams in the management and development of strategic planning. He will also work closely with the user experience department in designing, developing, and deploying scalable technologies that will lead to increased consumer satisfaction.
• The Senior backend developer also works with senior engineering management in ensuring that systems meet the overall business requirements and standards. 
• The Senior backend developer will also report on the status of site/software development, operations, quality, and system performance to senior engineering leadership.

Your skills and experience

• Strong experience with Golang with 3+ years experience
• Understanding the fully synchronous behavior of Golang
• Understanding of MVC design patterns
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
• Understanding accessibility and security compliance
• Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
• User authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
• Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
• Familiarity with limitations of Golang as a platform and its workarounds
• Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes
• Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and their declarative query languages
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
