Job description

The Firmware Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the development of firmware from concept through to delivery. This includes planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of firmware projects. The role involves collaboration with internal teams, cross-functional teams, managing timelines, and ensuring that projects meet quality standards and are delivered on schedule and within budget. The Firmware Project Manager will also be responsible for identifying and mitigating project risks, managing project resources, and maintaining comprehensive project documentation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop detailed project plans that outline scope, timeframes, budget, resources and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.. Ensure the firmware projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects. This includes the management of project teams involved in the design, development, and testing of firmware.
  • Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for project communication, ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed of project status, milestones, and changes. Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide or review technical guidance and support to the project team, helping to solve complex firmware issues. Ensure that the firmware meets the technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful project completion.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Manage and maintain comprehensive project documentation including requirements, design documents, project plans, and status reports. Prepare reports for upper management regarding the status of the project.

Your skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or relevant project management certification (e.g., PMP) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in firmware development and project management, ideally in an embedded systems environment.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong technical background with understanding of software development.
  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Experience with firmware development tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers and developers.
