Job description

Based in New Zealand and expanded into the US, Hectre is a SaaS company that helps fruit growers and packers produce and market more quality fruit, with less environmental impact. Formed in 2016, we are now a world-leading fruit tech company and our products are being used in 11 countries. 

After recently raising $3.5mil, we are expanding further, have an ambitious development plan and we're looking for talents like you to join us as we turn that plan into reality. Join us as a Senior Python Backend Engineer to work in our R&D Team to build and maintain the backend of Spectre, our Computer Vision-powered product that provides 95%++ accuracy for fruit size and color. You'll be expected to

  • Write robust and quality code in Python
  • Take ownership of your own projects and build (mostly) new product features
  • With the support of other members
    • Deploy Backend Flask APIs, serverless microservices using AWS native cloud services  
    • Worker flows and algorithm applying Machine Learning model
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of your work
  • Guide and mentor other members of the development team
  • Share your ideas and participate in group discussions
  • Assist with our customer's inquiries and problems

Your skills and experience

  • Great communication in English (verbal and written)
  • Has 3+ years of strong Python programming experience using best backend pattern practices
  • Experience in using test fixtures, test cases, and test suites with unit-test frameworks such as Pytest, and Unittest in commercial projects
  • Experience in Docker, Python virtual env, and deploying container life cycle provisioning with ECS/Kubernetes
  • You are not a DB admin but you have enough experience with SQL and databases to use them in your work
  • Git has no secret for you
  • You believe in creating robust processes to minimize downtime and rework
  • You are independent and take responsibility for the quality of your code
  • You are eager to learn new things with enthusiasm
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team: you know how to communicate, how to push back, how to share your opinion, and follow through on your commitments

    Nice-to-haves
  • Experiences in training/deployment SSD, Mask R-CNN, Object tracking, Computer vision
  • Python Flask API, ORM SQLAlchemy, Pytest
  • Familiarity with CI/CD
  • AWS Cloud services and development
  • Know loads about horticulture or the horticulture industry
  • Experience working in a diverse and international team
