THE ROLE

The Senior Developer is responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of various systems used by the University, including student administration systems and web-based systems. In addition, the incumbent will make contributions to the transition from existing systems to the University’s strategic software platforms including RMIT’s global student administration system. The incumbent will work with internal clients and project teams to capture system requirements, implement software and data integration services, and collaborate with colleagues to test the software. The incumbent will work together with other ITS teams in Vietnam and Australia to follow deployment and change management processes. The incumbent communicates well in an English-speaking, international environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Take shared responsibility over software architecture, quality assurance, security, and documentation of software.
  2. Design and development of applications (back-end and front-end) using a variety of programming languages including PHP, Python, HTML, Javascript, and Livecode.
  3. Design, develop and document data integration scripts and APIs.
  4. Provide expertise in database development including schema design and writing SQL queries.
  5. Collaborate with business stakeholders and project teams to understand business requirements, and review and contribute to project documentation.
  6. Work closely with other team members and other ITS teams (including RMIT Australia). Ensure the team follows professional software development and change management processes.
  7. Participate in Scrum meetings, and encourage Agile development processes.

Your skills and experience

OUR REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in software development, preferably with international organisations and/or working with clients abroad.
  • Demonstrated skills to work with internal clients and other teams in an English-speaking environment. Demonstrated skills to work in large project teams in other countries and other time zones.
  • Experience with migrating to new systems, and handling data migration is an advantage.
  • Experience with a broad range of web programming and scripting languages.
  • Experience with front-end programming frameworks and/or back-end programming frameworks.
  • Experience with database development, preferably MySQL. Experience with NoSQL is an advantage.
  • Experience in working with the Scrum or Kanban framework, and agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Experience using cloud services such as AWS and Azure is an advantage.
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework (Connectedness, Commitment to Excellence – Improve and Simplify; Imagination and Innovation; Impact; Inclusion; Agility).

  • English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic or general) with a score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
