Job description
The Programmer/DevOps Technician must have a good understanding of the DevOps and Agile frameworks. The Programmer/DevOps Technician must be equally adept at light programming and complex scripting as well as creating and maintaining our hosting environment.
The responsibilities of the Programmer/DevOps Technician include:
- Assist our lead developer with complicated programming tasks as needed.
- Automate with scripting our server and small CI/CD pipeline
- Manage and maintain our growing Docker and Kubernetes environment
- Help grow our use of Ansible to automate all Linux and OSX updates and upgrades.
- Stay current with web frameworks and backend technologies.
- As the Programmer/DevOps Technician, one will support our Lead Developer on all new projects and initiatives. They will design and then provision a development, staging, and production environment for all projects.
- Security and maintenance of custom applications and their environments will be the responsibility of the Programmer/DevOps Technician.
- Respond to performance complaints and support our Lead Developer in making corrections as needed.
- Support the school as we slowly move toward a colocation or cloud-based hosting model.
- Undergo training to improve his skill base.
- Work with the IT Director to establish goals and objectives to improve the quality of service provided.
- Attend technology department meetings when requested.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned by the ICT Director.
Your skills and experience
Knowledge, Education and Experience:
- Database Design (MS SQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Postgres, Oracle)
- Docker, Docker Compose, YAML files, and configuration.
- Kubernetes
- Ansible
- Jenkins
- CI/CD methodology
- Documentation
- Git, Git Hub, GitLab
- Solid Python abilities
- Shell and Powershell Scripting
- Solid understanding of Cyber Security and application hardening
- Zabbix, Graphana, Nagios, ELK stack knowledge a plus
- Influx DB, Redis experience a plus
- Operating System: Mac/Linux
Skills:
- Good at oral and written English
Abilities:
- Work well with people
- A dedication to continually update knowledge
- Able to explain technical problem in a simple terms
